The painting represents my childhood memory of celebrating the festival of lamps with my mother. In Tamil households, rows of lamps are lit and placed all around the house and kolams are drawn in the entrance and we wear traditional attires and make sweets to offer to Lord Shiva and Lord Kartikeya. Karthigai deepam is an ancient and important festival in Tamil culture, marking the day in which six children raised by six Kartigai Nymphs were merged by Goddess Parvati as one, Lord Karthikeya. It is also the day when Lord Shiva appeared as an endless flame.
