Neena Jyoti

Neena Jyoti is an emerging artist. Her family originates from Punjab and Nagpur and migrated to Canada in 1973. She was born in Montreal, QC and completed her honours degree in Environmental Studies from York University.

Neena is a self-taught artist who works almost exclusively with acrylics and oils and is striving to work with other mediums. She has been painting for over twenty-four years and has been drawing for as long as she can remember. Neena was a member of the South Asian Visual Arts Centre (SAVAC) in 2003.

SAVAC inspired her to add cultural aspects to her artwork. Neena was inspired to explore painting as a medium during her travels in Southwestern Ontario and across Canada. The sunrises and sunsets she experienced influenced the addition of colour to her artwork.

Neena believes that her Indian-inspired artwork (yoga, meditation, chakras, mehndi designs, etc.) will generate interest and inclusion of South Indian culture and traditions in Canada.
