Hemangi Shroff

Hemangi is an artist of Indian origin. Her Cultural Abstracts are inspired by textile patterns and weaves of India. She draws inspiration from memories of growing up in Bombay and her trips to the ‘kapda (fabric) bazaars’.

Through her work she revisits her own feelings towards Indian culture, textiles, and jewellery to decompose truths of being a woman in India. The interwoven patterns symbolize complexities of patriarchal structures, modernism, and cultural self-expression.

She looks to disconnect patriarchy and culture through her work to showcase intersections of femininity and fabrics along with how they connect to the rest of the world.
